MW / Utility Scale Solar EPC

MW-Scale and Utility Solar EPC

Solar EPC means one contractor carries engineering, procurement and construction responsibility for a solar plant. GLS executes MW-scale solar projects covering civil works, DC and AC works, balance of system, commissioning and ongoing O&M.

Solar EPC means one contractor carries engineering, procurement and construction responsibility for a solar plant. GLS executes MW-scale solar projects covering civil works, DC and AC works, balance of system, commissioning and ongoing O&M.

Overview

At MW scale, the plant is a construction project as much as an electrical one. Site grading, foundations, module mounting structures, cable trenching, inverter and transformer platforms, earthing grids, lightning protection and evacuation all have to be sequenced and quality-checked.

GLS structures these projects around defined milestones with inspection points at each stage, so that mechanical completion, electrical completion and commissioning are each verifiable rather than assumed.

Who it is for

  • Developers and IPPs executing ground-mount capacity
  • Industrial groups building captive or group-captive plants
  • Institutional and government project owners
  • Owners of large contiguous land parcels with evacuation access

How it works

Engineering

Layout optimisation, string and inverter sizing, SLDs, cable schedules, earthing and lightning protection design.

Procurement

Technical evaluation of modules, inverters, transformers, structures, cables and BOS against the design specification.

Construction

Civil foundations, structure erection, module mounting, DC stringing, AC works, switchyard interface and cable laying.

Commissioning

Pre-commissioning tests, inverter and transformer energisation, protection checks, performance verification and documentation.

Key benefits

  • Single-point engineering and execution accountability
  • Milestone-based project control with defined inspection stages
  • Specification-driven procurement rather than lowest-cost substitution
  • Documented commissioning and as-built records
  • Continuity from construction into operation and maintenance

Technical considerations

Civil works
Foundation type is selected from geotechnical data — pile, pedestal or ballast — with correction for soil bearing capacity and water table.
DC works
String configuration, DC cable sizing for voltage drop, SCB/array junction boxes, and polarity and insulation testing before energisation.
AC works
Inverter output grouping, LT/HT panels, transformers, metering and protection coordination up to the evacuation point.
Balance of system
Cable trays and trenches, earthing grid, lightning protection, monitoring, module cleaning provisions and plant security interfaces.

Process

  1. 01 — Consultation

We understand your load profile, electricity bill, tariff category and objective.

  2. 02 — Site Assessment

Roof or land survey covering area, orientation, shadow, structure and electrical infrastructure.

  3. 03 — System Design

Capacity sizing, layout, module and inverter selection, cable and protection design.

  4. 04 — Proposal & Planning

Detailed scope, bill of materials, indicative generation and commercial proposal.

  5. 05 — Engineering & Installation

Structure fabrication and erection, module mounting, DC and AC works, earthing and protection.

  6. 06 — Testing & Commissioning

Insulation, polarity, string current, earthing and inverter commissioning checks.

  7. 07 — Grid Integration / Handover

Coordination for net-metering or grid approval where applicable, then documented handover.

  8. 08 — Monitoring & O&M

Generation review, scheduled cleaning and inspection, and corrective maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does an EPC contractor take responsibility for?

Engineering, procurement and construction of the plant as a single scope — design, material supply, civil and electrical execution, testing and commissioning — handed over as a working plant with documentation.

  • Can GLS work on an existing partially built plant?

Yes. We assess what has been built and tested, identify gaps against design, and scope the balance works before taking responsibility for completion.

  • Is O&M included after commissioning?

O&M is a separate, optional scope that can be contracted alongside EPC so that the team that built the plant continues to maintain it.
