What it is

A solar panel is a sealed assembly of photovoltaic cells laminated between glass and a backsheet in a framed structure. Its rated wattage is measured at standard test conditions, and real output varies with irradiance, cell temperature, soiling and shading.

Where it is used

  • Residential and commercial rooftop systems
  • Industrial sheet-roof and RCC installations
  • Ground-mount and MW-scale plants
  • Solar pumping and street lighting systems

Key specifications

Cell technology
Monocrystalline PERC / N-type; bifacial options for ground mount
Typical module rating
Commonly 400–600 Wp for current utility and commercial classes
System voltage
Usually 1000 V or 1500 V DC rated, per module class
Construction
Tempered front glass, anodised aluminium frame, IP-rated junction box
Selection inputs
Available area, roof orientation, shading pattern and inverter string design
